Cross Contour

Artist Statement Flow Chart

Describe: My artwork looks realistic and like the photo reference. It is a cross contour drawing of a chihuahua, the title is Bucky which is the subject’s name/ The contrast in the lines because I didn’t use color I tried to make some areas really light to appear white I color while others are dark or light brown.

Create: The media I used is mixed media paper from XL Canson sketch book, I used Creative Charm Drawing Pencils, both 2H and HB as well as a simple .05 led pencil for finest lines. I also used a kneaded eraser for lifting m pencil sketch before going further into detail. I followed the lines in the direction the dog’s hair goes which also typically follows the direction the head shape goes into, I kept in mind it is a 3D figure.

Big Idea:  My Girlfriend inspired this drawing, Bucky is her dog, she loves him very much. My love for animals also inspired this drawing. This artwork represents Bucky’s personality. He also has this surprised uplifted expression. I tried to express that through his “Doggy eyebrows”. He is very loving and fragile dog (easily frightened) and I tried to show that through this drawing of him in surprised and ‘fear’ of the photo being taken.

Goals: My goals for this piece was to try and get it as accurate to Buck as possible and get it too look realistic. I wanted to show shading and darker colors with just grey pencil led. I feel like I’ve improved on drawing animals and fur more realistically.

Thoughts: I learned that the direction of the fur and shape is very important to a 3D appearance. This final peace is what I imagined; I expected a good drawing. I put lots of work, motivation, and dedication into it and I knew with that a good piece would come of it. It gives me more confidence in future pieces

,Magnified Image

Describe- My artwork looks very detailed and realistic. It also looks very alike to the photo of my subject. A realist photo of something that’s been magnified. The title of my piece is “Walking Art”. I made sure that when looking very close details and ‘imperfections’ in the skin are seen.

Create- XL media sketchbook paper, two sketch pencils 2B and HB. One is mainly for sketch and the other is softer like for shading or darker lines. I used some cross hatching in this as well.

Big idea- Artwork and photography used to show beauty in acne and in skin texture highly inspired this piece. My girlfriend is the subject and I call her the most beautiful piece of art, so to show her and everyone else her beauty I like to draw her often. It expresses both personal and social, considering beauty standards especially for women are high. That having acne is deemed ‘gross’ and ‘unattractive’ personal because of people with acne often feeling insecure because of these standards. I tried to express great admiration by creating this art piece.

Goals- My goals as an artist are to learn more techniques and styles of drawing. I want to share these techniques with others seeking help with improvement. I love to share tips and things with other artists because I love to help. This piece helped me get over my fear of larger drawings. Big sketchbooks made for larger artwork always intimidated me but I’ve now overcome that fear and actually come to realize I enjoy putting in great details in close, large pieces. My goals for next time is to find more time to spend on my work.

Thoughts- I learned to focus harder of details and how to work on bigger pieces. The final piece is becoming better than I imagined, I tend to underestimate myself. I will work with large pieces and magnified pieces more often, it gets be more excited than anxious now that I’ve been successful in my first shot.

Water Color Landscape

The title of my water color painting is "fantasy island". This piece depicts a place I would go to for release and to feel safe, to get a break from the real world. It has more of an animated style rather than realistic. I used different colors and shades in my piece to give contrast.

I made this piece by sketching lightly then adding some water colors here and there and slowly adding layers. At the very end I add details and line art with a pen.

What inspired this piece is a water color mushroom I created once, the place I go in my head to escape reality inspired this piece. I tried to convey a feeling of safety.

My goal for this piece was to create a cute water color landscape with fantasy like creatures and plants. This piece helped me gain more patients by waiting on each layer to dry before continuing on another layer of paint.

I learned how to work with watercolors and the water to color ratios, how to make a color darker or lighter, how to add shadows. This piece is what some of what I Imagined. It appears as the imagine i imagined in my head but it is more difficult than what I thought. This will prepare me for future watercolor pieces since I have a greater idea of how to work with this media. It has inspired me to do more future pieces like this as well.

Texture Piece

       Paper View       Plain Text View

Describe-> Why piece looks soft and realistic, the tongue of the cow looks smooth and wet. The subject matter is realism and texture. The title is "Soft Friend" I become friends with most animals I meet or at least I try to. The most obvious principles are Value, and texture.

Create-> The media in my art is pencil and some gel pen. I used a very up close reference picture to study and get the textures accurate. I shadows before adding texture and then with the fur I followed the direction of the animals body, the head is curved so followed to structure of it's head. I also overlapped the strokes that were fur over each other after I got some layed down. For the blurry out of focus parts I didn't put as much work into detail and smudged the pencil with my finger to add blur.

Big Idea-> Some cottage core aesthetic photos of cute cows and my love for animals inspired this piece. This is personal, it my personal love for animals and how I like cottage aesthetic. I tried to show adoration and affection in this piece, I feel like the first thought is "awe".

Goals->  I had a goal that I wanted the piece to look as if you reach out and touched it you could feel the fur, I feel like I did a good enough job, but there is always room for improvement.

Thought-> I learned to start with the fur further towards the outside and work inwards so that it overlaps like n reality. The final piece is mostly what I imaged, I felt like it could have been a bit better but it's still pretty good. Because I expected a but more realism. It will influence more artwork by inspiring me to draw more animals.
